Understanding how universities approach the integration of generative AI (GAI) into their course policies is crucial since AI technologies are rapidly transforming many industries through the need to apply AI while upholding ethical practices. This exploratory study seeks to examine how GAI policies discussed across academic institutions. The policies were analyzed using NLP techniques and utilized existing publicly available datasets, which consist of a collection of over one hundred university policies and syllabi policies. Various supervised and unsupervised clustering techniques were applied, and we uncovered patterns in how different universities expressed their policies, their best practices, and a general summary of how universities and colleges intend to tackle the challenges generative AI and ChatGPT may pose.
