Name:Charles Alba
Bio:

I am a Ph.D. student in the Computational & Data Sciences program at Washington University in St Louis. I am also a Fellow at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and hold an Adjunct postion at the Brown School at WashU.

I conduct research at the intersection of applied natural language processing (NLP) and public health. Broadly, my research focuses on applying large language models (LLMs) and computational social scientific tools to address health and societal issues. My research utilizes novel data sources such as text from digital data (e.g., social media, news, forums) and mobile phone data. My other active areas of research include Generative AI in Higher Education and fairness in LLMs.

As an applied data scientist, I aim to use my research to create tangible and beneficial tools for stakeholders. As such, I actively develop and publish open-source tools, such as programming packages or models that can be easily deployed. You can explore my programming packages on my pypi page at https://pypi.org/user/charles_alba/ and my models on my huggingface page at https://huggingface.co/cja5553.
