Name:Sharanya Jayaraman
Bio:

Sharanya Jayaraman is a Computer Science educator and researcher who is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Her research interests include High-Performance Computing, Computer Architecture, Programming Languages, and Monte Carlo Methods. Sharanya holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Florida State University, obtained in 2014, and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from Anna University in India, where she graduated with honors and distinction.

Sharanya’s research aims to explore the resilience of Exascale computing systems running large numerical and scientific computing problems. Modeling and simulation are useful tools for identifying potential failure points and testing out mitigation strategies. These techniques can be extended to other software engineering applications and potentially provide infrastructure support for machines using Artificial Intelligence Techniques.

Sharanya has made significant contributions to curriculum development and instructional design throughout her academic career as an educator. As a Teaching Faculty member at Florida State University, she has taught 14 undergraduate and graduate courses, chaired the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, and led course redesign efforts to increase retention and improve student performance in introductory computer science courses. Her innovative teaching methods, including the use of active learning and semi-flipped classroom models, have garnered recognition and awards. Sharanya strives to use her experience in education, research, and the industry to contribute to the advancement of the field of computing.
