The SIGCSE Committee on Computing Education in Liberal Arts College is charged with providing a network for faculty in liberal arts computing programs to share ideas with similarly situated colleagues, as well as to provide a voice for the community in larger discussions of computing education. This BoF will invite community members to share their priorities about where there is a particular need for networking and/or advocacy. After a brief introduction to the Committee and its goals, participants will form breakout groups to discuss the priorities and needs they see in the liberal arts CS education community. Facilitators will report back high priority items to the room. In the second half of the session, groups will be formed around the common themes, and participants will discuss concrete work the Committee might take on to support these priorities. The Committee will use the feedback from this session to plan events and activities for the coming year. This may include the creation of Working Groups, which BoF participants will be invited to join. Any SIGCSE attendee with an affinity for the liberal arts is welcome to attend. We interpret the liberal arts broadly as programs emphasizing education for the breadth of graduates’ career, civic, and personal lives, in contrast to institutions that focus on more narrow preparation, such as for a particular profession. More information about the Committee is available at https://computing-in-the-liberal-arts.github.io/.
